In order for your Botox injections to be effective, you need to follow the instructions of your aesthetician carefully. This aftercare is just as important—if not more so—as the procedure itself. So, to ensure you get the most out of your Botox injections, there are a few things that you will want to do after you receive your treatment. Here are five recommendations.
1. Relax for a Bit and Remain Upright
After receiving your injections, you will want to relax. Don't head to the gym and get your workout in for the day; that will need to wait until later in the evening, or better, another day. Instead, head home, slide into that relaxing chair, turn on a movie, and relax. It is important that you don't lie down, as it is recommended that you remain upright while the injections take effect. This should take about six hours, unless your aesthetician says otherwise. If you lie down, it could allow the Botox to move to other areas of the face, impacting the results.
2. Exercise Your Muscles
To ensure that the Botox filler is spread as evenly as possible throughout the face, exercise the muscles in the area that has been treated. Usually, it will be enough to just go about your day as usual, laughing, talking, and so on.
3. Don't Get a Facial Massage
While it is true that you should exercise your facial muscles, you should not head to the spa for a facial massage. This remains true for at least several hours after receiving the injections. When the facial muscles are rubbed vigorously with the Botox solution in the face, it can cause the Botox to move into other areas of the face, like the eyelids, hindering the end result.
4. Minimize Bruising and Swelling
Do you tend to bruise relatively easily? If so, then you will want to mitigate this after receiving your Botox injections. You can generally address this problem by applying an ice pack to the areas that received treatment, which will help keep inflammation and bruising down. You may also be able to take over-the-counter medication for additional relief.
5. Avoid Excessive Heat
As you are recovering from the Botox treatment, you will want to avoid excessively high temperatures like saunas, tanning beds, steam rooms, and hot baths. The heat can cause your blood pressure to rise, resulting in increased blood flow, potentially leading to a less effective Botox treatment.
